Colour and Composition
Through out the MA I have investigated these subjects, by studying theory, the work of other artists and by practical experiments of my own, I feel that my knowledge and accomplishment in these areas has increased, but it is not yet fully developed and still need work. I find it helpful to sample colours from successful pieces by other artists to analyze, and to study composition in my own and other’s work in order to improve my own colour schemes and compositions.
Cushions
The images that I design lend themselves well to cushion covers, I have chosen a neutral linen backing and experimented with different ways of enclosing the zip after researching other cushions available on the high street. Initially, although I was designing series of images I chose piping to complement/contrast with each image (see Olympic and Jubilee ranges) but for the Shore images and subsequently the fairground images I have chosen piping or trim that works with the whole series.
I started making the cushions myself but found the time taken to produce a professional finish precluded a reasonable price and have found a London Based Company, Autumn Down, who are reasonably priced, have a short lead time, and are friendly and approachable.
Commissions
Throughout my MA I have continued to work to commission, I have found that my previous clients are more than happy with the new style work
