Matthew Harris and Cleo Mussi

Went with Penny to see the 50/50 exhibition at the Victoria Art Gallery, by the above, inspired by a trip to Japan, and you can see the influence, I thought his work, which is multiple folded striped cloth, stained and cut and painted, reminded me of old mattresses and clothes patched worn and stained, I preferred the work to the studies on paper, and am beginning to like the austere abstract effect, it reminds me of looking at stains when I was small and making pictures of them. Cleo’s work was very interesting, not sure I liked the cutesy stuff, but did love the bento boxes, very clever for the mosaic pieces to look like sushi, and also the arrangements looked like allotments so made me happy, her selections are clever and the way she makes faces from a few cut pieces of plate is very clever. like the way the works in progress identify the similarities between their work, just the raw materials, also similarities with mine and also Peter Clarke, see something in your chosen material and see what it could be…………..
